VIDEO: Westjet crew stage high-energy flashmob at YVR

Airports and air travel in general have had a rough go over the past few months, so it was high time that something smile-worthy entered our news cycle.

WestJet is the latest to beat the COVID blues in a new video depicting employees engaged in a high-energy flash mob at Vancouver International Airport.

The YVR choreography comes as airports restrict foot traffic to travellers and workers only during the pandemic lockdown, resulting in quieter-than-usual terminals.

The video begins with a sorrowful WestJet staffer, shaking his head as he glances up at a flight departures board showing just a handful of itineraries.

Cue the music and wham: a catwalk of mask-wearing WestJetters suddenly appears, strutting and waving to the groove of Meghan Trainor’s hit track “Me Too.”

A hand-on-hip-finger-snapping-leg-kicking-foot-tapping extravaganza then ensues, proving that not even a global pandemic can stop this workforce from having a little fun, two metres apart.

Cut to outside, and the boogie continues as the music transitions to Lady Gaga’s yas-worthy new bop “Rain On Me,” an epic and iconic duet featuring the divine Ariana Grande.

The aircraft marshalling team then takes it to the runway, literally, as they put some bass in their walk, serving WestJet executive realness, in front of a Boeing 737-800 as the song “Magic In The Air” by Magic System feat. Ahmed Chawki takes it home. 

Roll credits and the video concludes with some words of wisdom germane to travel life: “The most beautiful things in life are not just things. They are people and places, memories and pictures, they are feelings and moments, smiles and laughter.”

WestJet, you better work. Bravo!
