Anaheim/OC travel delegates wrap Western Canada roadshow

Representatives from Anaheim/Orange County hotels, transportation companies, attractions, shopping and dinner shows invited a select group of Vancouver travel agents and media to join them at the Timber Room atop Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain and celebrate another successful Western Canada roadshow. The group began in Edmonton on May 4 then stopped in Calgary, Victoria and Langley before landing in Vancouver last Friday.

“The events for the travel trade were not to train them,” said Pepe Avila, director of tourism sevelopment for the Anaheim/OC Visitor & Convention Bureau. “It was more to share with them the new and exciting things that are happening in Anaheim. Anaheim is growing, evolving and transforming.”

Disneyland Resort celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2015 and the celebrations begin May 22 with three new nighttime shows. More than 1.5 million LED lights and characters from Monsters, Inc., Cars, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story and Frozen highlight the Paint The Night parade down Main Street, U.S.A.; the fireworks show has been re-imagined as Disneyland Forever and features two original songs by Disney Legend Richard Sherman. Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey Mouse host World of Color, a fun-filled light spectacular that celebrates Walt Disney’s dream for Disneyland over in Disney’s California Adventure.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Universal Studios Hollywood is rolling out Fast & Furious – Supercharged as the grande finale to the world-famous Studio Tour; Springfield, a recreation of the Simpsons hometown that surrounds the The Simpsons Ride; and a new Nighttime Studio Tour, that offers a look at the art of moonlight movie-making.

SeaWorld San Diego has opened Explorer’s Reef, an expansion to its main entry gate. The coral reef attraction features close interactions with shark pups, rays, horseshoe crabs and cleaner fish in four state-of-the-art touch pools. Aquatica, SeaWorld’s waterpark, is 20 minutes south of SeaWorld and features water play experiences that range from serene to extreme, one of the largest wave pools in southern California and animal exhibits.

Hotels opening in Anaheim Resort this year include the Hyatt Place at Anaheim Resort/Convention Centre, the closest Hyatt hotel to Disneyland Resort; Ayers Hotel Orange, a 10-minute walk from the Outlets at Orange; Courtyard Waterpark Hotel, with a 20,000-square-foot waterpark; the all-suite SpringHill Suites Anaheim Maingate; and the SpringHill Suites Anaheim Resort/Convention Centre. Great Wolf Lodge Resort, with 600 rooms, waterpark and meeting spaces is scheduled to open next year.

Avila also spoke of the area’s shopping and dining experiences. The recently opened Packing District, at the intersection of Anaheim Blvd. and Santa Ana St., features a wide array of eateries and entertainment options centred around the restored Packard Building (a former car showroom), Packing House (a former citrus packing house and home to the Anaheim Brewery) and Farmers Park, the home of a weekly farmers’ market.

Karmel Shuttle teams with Citadel Outlets for a 'Shop Until You Drop Off…At LAX' package that includes hotel pick-up, access to the VIP lounge at Citadel Outlets, complimentary wi-fi, snacks, drinks, luggage storage and a VIP Savings Card and Citadel shopping bag.

Avila closed by inviting agents to complete the Anaheim online training program. Those who complete the program between now and the end of June are eligible to enter a contest to win a prize pack that includes attraction passes, accommodation, tours, transfers and a $200 Visa card.
