Connecting Western Canada

More than 150 passengers checked in on the inaugural flight, including a destination wedding group. Passengers were welcomed with Jamaica-themed hats, luggage tags and other goodies while entertained by Powerhouze, a local Calgary reggae band.

Emma Madsen, BDM Western Canada, Jamaica Tourist Board is eager to share the new flight options to guests.

"We are so excited that WestJet has started non-stop service from Calgary to Montego Bay," Madsen said. "This flight is great as it allows visitors to connect from so many getaways in Western Canada allowing for same day travel. Last year, Jamaica welcomed over 400,000 Canadians and we're excited to see more arrivals from Calgary and Western Canada. In just over six hours, visitors can enjoy the warmth and hospitality that Jamaica is famous for!”

Non-stop from Calgary

The non-stop service from Calgary began on Nov. 3 and will run throughout the winter 2018/2019 season. It also starts twice weekly beginning Jan. 6, 2019.

The new flight is aimed at connecting Western Canada directly to Jamaica offering increased options for travellers from the West.

Guests from Brandon, MB through to Comox, BC can now visit and depart Montego Bay with same day service connecting through WestJet Link, their new regional air service partnered with Pacific Coastal Airlines.

“Everything is aligning and in place for it to be a great year in Jamaica from Western Canada," Madsen concluded.
