For more than 30 years award-winning writer and editor Janice Strong’s work has appeared in regional and national travel publications with both trade and consumer audiences.

“Quality is quality and luxury is luxury,” says Luis Angarita, managing director of Velas Vallarta and Casavela hotels, in an interview with PAXnewsWest. “The most important thing is the employees. They are the ones that make the hotels.”

The company invited 30 Vancouver agents and tour operators to an appreciation dinner at the Blue Water Café on Nov. 27 to thank them for their support and celebrate the hotel company’s growing reputation as “the Rolex of the all-inclusive world,” according to Forbes magazine.

Launched 28 years ago with the opening of the Velas Vallarta, the luxury all-inclusive brand has grown to five properties: Velas Vallarta, Casavelas, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Grand Velas Riviera Maya and its newest, the Grand Velas Los Cabos, which opened a year ago.

Facilities vary from property to property, but the Velas all-inclusive plan features suite accommodations, breakfast, lunch and dinner at on-property restaurants, 24-hour concierge service, 24-hour suite service, domestic and international premium liquor brands at the bars, in-suite minibar replenished daily, free wifi, fitness centre, recreational programs for kids, teens, and adults, non-motorized watersports, taxes and gratuities - along with the personalized, attentive service noted by Angarita.

“From the employees, it comes from the heart,” added Lynne White, Regional Sales Manager, Western Canada for Velas Resorts. “It doesn’t feel forced, it’s just a wonderful, welcoming feeling. It’s genuine.”

Velas resorts is also renowned for its culinary experiences that include up to 50 wine choices every night at every property and the talents of a two-star Michelin chef and a 50,000-bottle wine collection at the Grand Velas Los Cabos, as well as its wellness programs.

“Wellness suites are for anybody who is into health and wellness, whether it’s got to do with doctors or they’ve had issues in life where they have to be healthy and well while they’re away, or because that’s how they want to travel,” noted White.

When clients book a wellness suite, the chef and the personal fitness instructor will come and ask them what they want to accomplish over the next week and create a personalized plan. A 50-minute massage is also included when you book a suite, as is a selection of healthy options in the mini bar, recumbent exercise bike, exercise kit (yoga mat, dumbbells and resistance bands) Alchimia Apothecary Aromatherapy kit, a Vitamin C shower and one hydrotherapy circuit at the Spa.

Agents enrolled in the Velas Experts program earn interchangeable points for services that include complimentary nights, suite upgrades and VIP amenities, plus bonus cash payments. New agents can earn up to 50 per cent bonus points for every reservation made in the first month after registration.
