Travel Nevada welcomed about 70 travel agents and media to a Vancouver networking reception last week, where they had the chance to meet with 12 partner organizations representing tourism opportunities in the Silver State.

“The partners are here to raise awareness of things people don’t know about,” Chris Moran, Travel Nevada’s public relations specialist, told PAX. “We’re hoping people give Nevada another look. We think the state as a whole is a good place to visit – we’re eager to show it off.”

“There’s so much more to Nevada than Las Vegas,” said Teri Laursen, Southern Nevada representative for Travel Nevada, adding, “but thank you for sending your clients to Las Vegas!”

Here are the key details and updates agents should know about Nevada tourism, straight from the partners at the event.

Caesars Entertainment Group

Planet Hollywood is adding a new Ultra Hip room category featuring designer touches along with mini-fridges and coffee makers, slated for completion in September. The Tenors of Rock began a residency at Harrah’s of Las Vegas in January, and the LINQ Promenade has new locations of four iconic brands: In-N-Out Burger, Virgil’s Real BBQ, Honolulu Cookie Company and Jaburritos.

Cirque du Soleil

As part of its 10th anniversary last year, LOVE saw a refresh with new acts and new costuming. “It’s going extremely well,” Cirque sales manager Jacinta Jose told PAX. LOVE is one of seven Cirque shows currently playing in Las Vegas.

“Seven is a lot of shows, but we manage to wow people every night,” Jose said.

Cowboy Country

Nevada’s Cowboy Country in northeast Nevada offers a mix of western, Native American and Basque culture, Cowboy Country Territory chair Tom Lester told PAX, highlighting the 10-day National Cowboy Poetry Gathering and the National Basque Festival.

Destination Las Vegas

Destination Las Vegas highlighted two new offerings for Vegas destination weddings: The new Drive Thru Elvis Wedding Ceremony at the Elvis Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas allows guests to wed in a 1955 Pink Cadillac, with an Elvis impersonator performing the ceremony, and guests can now marry in a private cabin on The High Roller, the largest observation wheel in the world. Other Vegas-area ceremony offerings include the Grand Canyon (by helicopter), Red Rock Canyon, and The Valley of Fire.

Las Vegas Territory

The Las Vegas Territory Traveler’s Passport, a 40-page pocket-sized booklet, is packed with information about 12,000 square miles of Nevada tourism activities. The passport is free to travel agents, who can request as many copies as they would like for clients by emailing

A member-based organization, Las Vegas Territory connects agents directly with hotels, attractions and other operators, with commissions available.

“Agents are losing money when they only book air and hotel,” Leah Koza, a board member with the organization, told PAX. “If you take a little more time, you can make a lot more money and give customers more than they ever thought.”

Photo Tours Vegas

Agents can connect clients who want to go beyond the selfie with professional photography packages that combine sightseeing with photographs in front of iconic landmarks from the Welcome to Las Vegas sign to the Valley of Fire. Packages include a professional photographer, champagne and transportation.

Reno Tahoe USA

“Reno offers all the bells and whistles at a more affordable price,” Terry Schumacher, the tourism sales manager for the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, told PAX, noting the area is a four-season destination with the highest concentration of ski slopes in North America as well as more than 50 golf courses.

Eldorado Resorts is investing more than USD$50 million in the area over the next three years, and the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks is undergoing ongoing upgrades including USD$25 million more in renovations. In Downtown Reno, Siena Hotel Casino will rebranded as a non-gaming Renaissance hotel, with the grand opening later this month. A new Courtyard Marriott has opened near Greater Nevada Field, and Grand Sierra Resort is nearing completion of a nearly USD$100 million remodel. A new Hampton Inn and Suites also opened earlier this year in northwest Reno.

Clients can fly to the Reno Tahoe International Airport with daily one-stop service from Vancouver on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines.

The Mob Museum

Located in Downtown Las Vegas, The Mob Museum recently received accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums. The 41,000-square-foot museum has in its collection artifacts belonging to Al Capone, Charlie Luciano, Meyer Lansky, Ben Siegel, Mickey Cohen, and John Gotti, among many others.
