Reports have emerged that Air Canada's John MacLeod has left the company for a new role with Virgin Australia.

Previously employed by Air Canada as its VP global sales and alliances, Reuters reported yesterday that MacLeod has been appointed as the new chief commercial officer at Virgin Australia.

MacLeod joined Air Canada in 2017 as vice-president, commercial strategy, following a tenure with Virgin America. In 2018, he accepted the new role as VP, global sales and alliances.

Virgin Australia Holdings said on Wednesday (Aug. 28) that it would cut 750 jobs, merge business divisions and conduct a sweeping review of its operations after swinging to an annual underlying loss due to soft market conditions and higher fuel costs.

This is a developing story.
