Name: Jody Strauss

Company: Fareconnect.com

Where do you live? St. Albert, AB

How long have you been a travel agent? I've happily been an agent for almost seven years, with Fareconnect the entire time. With a strong support system and great team throughout, I love the company I'm with.

What is your speciality? I enjoy family travel, honeymoons, groups and destination weddings. Adventure travel is always fun to book as well - it's wonderful to work with clients wanting to go somewhere out of the ordinary.

What do you love most about being a travel agent?  I love making clients' travel dreams a reality, especially if it's their first time leaving the country or going to a new destination. Getting pictures and feedback when they return from making new memories is always rewarding.

What's one travel trend you've noticed as of late?  For the past couple of years, many of my clients are wanting to go somewhere that is not "the norm." As well, many solo travellers are wanting to explore the world. Multi-generational travel is getting more popular each season as well - who wouldn't want to vacation with your family to make memories?

Of all the bookings you’ve made, which itinerary and/or travel package are you most proud of? My favorite & most memorable vacation I worked on was with a client who was just diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, almost two years after finishing treatment for a different form of cancer. This special lady wanted to surprise her family with a trip to Disneyland to make memories and have some fun before she told them the devastating news and had to undergo treatment again. It wasn't a difficult booking by any means, but it was one that meant a lot to myself and that special family.

What's your number one piece of advice to other travel agents?  Be unique with your business: what works well for me might not work well for others. Travel as much as you can: the more destinations you can enjoy will give you the confidence and experience to share with your clients to build great relationships and grow your business while having fun.
