Name: Robin Gates

Company: Robin’s Nest Travel

Where do you live? Treherne, Manitoba

How long have you been a travel agent? Five years

What is yourspecialtyDestination weddings, group cruising, family travel.

What do you love most about being a travel agent?

I find it super rewarding to have happy clients by sharing my advice and tips about places I've travelled to and experiences I have had!

Being a travel agent has allowed me to expand my own travel experiences, getting more adventurous every trip which adds value to my business! Each day is a new adventure!

What's one travel trend you've noticed as of late?

Who doesn’t love travel? Everyone is travelling, living in the now, checking off those bucket lists and searching for off-the-beaten path travel adventures!

Of all the bookings you’ve made, which itinerary and/or travel package are you most proud of?

I love all the packages I do, but I recently did a surprise trip to New York for a 65th birthday!

I did all the special touches, found the perfect New York birthday card and bottle of wine rolled up the tickets in a scroll tied with a pretty ribbon - all wrapped up in a beautiful gift bag tied with luggage tags! I'm not sure who was more excited to give the gift, myself or my client! It was a hit and all my efforts were very much appreciated! Sometimes it’s the little things!

What's your number one piece of advice to other travel agents? The best education you can give yourself is to invest in your own business: put 20 per cent of your commissions away and explore something new - keep it growing!

Take part in FAMs and take advantage of agent rates wherever you can – the more experience you have, the more confident you are in talking to your clients, asking the questions and giving them sound advice.

Social media is such a great way to promote your business - it reaches so many people, and it’s free!
