Name: Tannis Dyrland
Company: Travel With Tannis – The Travel Agent Next Door
Where do you live? Calgary, Alberta
How long have you been a travel agent? 12 years
What is your specialty? Custom group and adventure travel – working with groups of friends or families looking for a particular experience. Genealogy trips are more and more common, as well as families and friends looking for something different than the typical beach vacation.
What do you love most about being a travel agent? The ability to let creativity soar. Designing experiences for clients that encompass elements they never knew were in reach. When you can provide an experience for a client they always believed was out of reach or perhaps did not even know existed, this is what drives my passion. Being surrounded by my team and colleagues who are incredible entrepreneurs and creative collaborators is an advantage.
What's one travel trend you've noticed as of late? This past year, I have had a tremendous amount of discussion around intention and experiential travel. This could include hiking Kilimanjaro to working in an animal sanctuary in Costa Rica. There are so many opportunities to have an experience that is Instagram- or blog-worthy.
Of all the bookings you’ve made, which itinerary and/or travel package are you most proud of? An around the world trip for a family researching cultures in the most remote areas of Africa and Europe. The client is a notable author and the best way for him to develop his writings is to immerse himself and his family in different locations.
What's your number one piece of advice to other travel agents? Remember, you have the best job on the planet.
