Following a boom in international arrivals to Japan last year, travel agency the JTB Corporation, in partnership with Navitime Co. and Microsoft Japan, has announced a brand new app, The Japan Trip Navigator, to assist travellers both prior to, and during their stay in the country.
According to the Japan Times, the Japan Trip Navigator app, available for download on Apple iOS, uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology, making it easy to plan a trip. It features more than 100 travel ideas in five areas surrounding Sapporo, Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, Fukuoka and Okinawa, and an additional 3,600 tourist spots.
The Japan Trip Navigator app is free, and as of now, only available in English, but JTB has expressed the hope that additional languages are coming soon. It was also highlighted that an Android version of the app will come later as well.
Last fall, the Japanese National Tourism Organization (JNTO) officially launched the "Japan Official Travel App," its tourism app for iOS and Android devices.
Much like the Japan Trip Navigator app, JNTO's product was also aimed at tourists traveling to Japan and offers information on tourism destinations nationwide, including rural areas, transport information and essential information in multiple languages in the event of an emergency or disaster.
